What is Switch Mode?

Switch Mode is a position mode control on BitMEX that lets traders move between One-Way Mode and Hedge Mode with open positions intact. Switch Mode re-registers existing long and short exposure under the new mode rather than forcing a close-and-reopen cycle. 

A trader holding a 10 BTC long in One-Way Mode can flip to Hedge Mode and keep the 10 BTC long live, now displayed as a segregated long leg that accepts independent short entries. Likewise, a trader holding a 10 BTC long and 8 BTC short in Hedge mode will have a 2 BTC long after switching to One-Way Mode. 

Switch Mode works on web, mobile, and via the BitMEX API, and applies at the account level across all perpetual and futures contracts that support Hedge Mode.

Switch Mode is available on every perpetual and futures contract on BitMEX that supports hedge mode. Switch Mode applies at the account level: flipping position mode changes the mode for all eligible contracts in the account, not one contract at a time.

If it is determined that any BitMEX user has given false representations as to their location, incorporation, establishment, citizenship or residence, or HDR detects a user is from a Restricted Jurisdiction as described above, HDR reserves the right to immediately close their accounts and liquidate any open positions. HDR may, in its sole discretion, implement controls to restrict access to the BitMEX trading platform in any of the Restricted Jurisdictions.
