The BitMEX calculator is a tool within the trading terminal that allows traders to calculate key trading metrics. It is found in the top left of the Place Order widget on the Trade page. It lets you calculate Profit/Loss, Target Price based on Return on Equity (ROE), and Liquidation Price by entering your position size, entry price, leverage, and other parameters. Giving traders a tool to forecast and plan their trades effectively.
How do I calculate Profit/Loss?
To calculate Profit/Loss, enter the following details into the calculator:
- Size – the position size you are taking, including leverage.
- Entry Price – the price at which you open the trade.
- Exit Price – the target price at which you want to close the trade.
- Leverage – the multiplier of your initial investment used to increase your position (up to 100x).
Once all fields are completed, the calculated Profit/Loss appears on the right side of the calculator.
How do I find a target price based on ROE?
Return on Equity (ROE) measures how much you earn compared with how much you put down. For example, if you invest $100 in equity at 10x leverage, your position size is $1,000. A 10% price increase would make the position worth $1,100, yielding $100 in profit – an ROE of 100%.
With the Target Price calculator, enter your assumptions (equity, leverage, and desired ROE) to determine the target price needed to achieve your desired return.
How do I calculate Liquidation Price?
Enter the following into the Liquidation Price tab:
- Size – the number of contracts you plan to buy or sell.
- Entry Price – the price at which you wish to open a position.
- Wallet/Leverage – for Wallet, the amount of XBT in your wallet (applies when using Cross Margin); for Leverage, the amount of leverage you are using.
The calculator displays the Liquidation Price on the right side. When that price is reached, the Liquidation Engine takes over your position and all margin assigned to it is lost. To move the liquidation price further away, reduce your Size (on Cross Margin) or lower your Leverage.
