If you have lost access to your mobile device, replaced your phone, or deleted your authenticator app, you can restore access to your BitMEX account using one of the three recovery methods below.
Restore Using Your Original Setup Key or QR Code
If you saved the secret alphanumeric setup key or backup QR code when you initially configured Two-Factor Authentication in your Security Centre:
- Open your authenticator app (e.g., Google Authenticator, Authy).
- Tap Add Account (the + icon in Google Authenticator, or Settings > Add Account in Authy).
- Select Enter Code Manually or Enter Setup Key.
- Input your registered BitMEX account email and paste your secret key.
The app will immediately begin generating valid 6-digit codes for your login.
Note: For security reasons, setup keys and initial QR codes are only displayed once upon activation and cannot be retrieved from your account settings after setup.
Reset Using Your 2FA Reset Code
When you enabled 2FA, BitMEX provided an option to generate a unique Reset Code on the Security Centre page. If you noted down this code:
- Navigate to the 2FA Reset Tool.
- Enter your account credentials and paste your 2FA Reset Code.
- Follow the prompts to disable your existing authenticator.
Once logged in, immediately visit your Security Centre to set up 2FA again on your new device.
Contact Support for Manual Verification
If you do not have your setup key or reset code, our Support team can manually reset your 2FA following strict identity verification:
1. Submit a support ticket
2. Complete the manual ID verification process through support
Note: For account security, 2FA reset reviews can take up to 24 hours to complete, and accounts are subject to a 72 hour withdrawal ban following the reset.
