To verify your physical location during the identity verification (KYC) process, BitMEX offers the option to securely use Browser Geolocation to verify your address instantly.
If we cannot verify your location automatically, you will be asked to upload a valid Proof of Address (POA) document.
Acceptable Proof of Address Documents
You can submit any of the following official documents:
- Bank/Credit/Debit Card Statements:
- Bank statement
- Credit/debit card statement
- Official correspondence (e.g., Terms of Service updates, account summaries)
- Joint bank account statement
- Mortgage statement
- Utility Bills:
- Electricity bill
- Natural gas bill
- Water bill
- Waste/refuse bill
- Telecommunications Bills:
- Internet bill
- Television bill
- Financial Statements:
- Pension fund statement
- Statement from a money transfer company (showing sender's and receiver's addresses)
- Statement from an insurance company (showing policyholder's name and address)
- Government-Issued Documents:
- National ID card
- Residence card
- Driver's License
- Tax documents (e.g., demand letter, bill, statement)
- Official proof of residence from the local government
- Other official government-issued documents (e.g., letters from social security agencies)
- Instrument of court appointment (e.g., liquidator or grant of probate)
- Property Related Documents
- Current tenancy agreement
- Property deed
Required Information on Your Document
Your Proof of Address document must clearly display all of the following:
- Your Full Name: Must match the name on your ID and BitMEX account.
- Your Full Residential Address: Must match the address you entered during verification.
- Document Issue Date: Must fall within the valid periods listed below.
- Issuing Authority: The name/logo of the government agency, utility company, bank, etc.
Note on Completeness: You must provide the entire page if it's a single-page document. For multi-page documents, you must include every page that contains the key information above.
Valid Dates of Issue
To be accepted, your document must meet the following date requirements:
- Government-issued IDs/Passports - Acceptable until the document itself expires
- Government-issued tax documents - Acceptable if they are issued within the past 12 months
- Lease and tenancy agreements - Acceptable if they are issued within the past 12 months
- All other acceptable POA - Acceptable if they are issued within the past 3 months
Unacceptable Documents & Submissions
To avoid rejection, please ensure your submission does not fall into any of the categories below.
Unacceptable Document Types:
- Receipts and invoices.
- Documents that only display a P.O. Box address.
- Handwritten letters or notes.
- Documents from Restricted/Sanctioned Jurisdictions.
- Suspected fraudulent, tampered, or manipulated documents.
Unacceptable Presentation:
- Missing Information: Fails to clearly show your full name, address, issue date, or issuing authority.
- Missing Pages: Multi-page documents where a required page is omitted.
- Mismatched Information: Details on the document do not match the information you provided to BitMEX.
- Unclear or Distorted: The image is blurry, poorly lit, taken at a severe angle, or obscured by fingers, reflections, or glare.
